Thank you for visiting my website! On this page I'll introduce myself to you, using three questions: Who, What & Why?
01.
Who?
Hi, my name is Ferry Timp. I'm 42 years old, born and raised in Utrecht, The Netherlands. I live in a town called Bodegraven with my wife, son and our dachshund.
I've been working and learning since I was 18 years old. I ended up in the accountancy sector more or less by chance. I worked for almost 12.5 years at PwC, a large global accounting firm. I rose to the position of manager and also my Chartered Accountant qualification (CPA). After that, I wanted to spent more time at one organization, so I could make a greater difference for that organization. So, I applied for the position of internal accountant at the municipality of Leiden. In that role, I was ultimately responsible for the internal audit function for 5 years. And after that, for 2.5 years, I was project manager of an innovation program to digitize audits.
As of March 1st, 2019, I started my own company: F€®®Y Tekent | The Drawing Auditor. Especially because I discovered that working with a marker in my hand truly energized me. Ans I also experienced how incredibly powerful working visually can be in daily practice. It provides clarity, makes things incredibly concrete, and thus forsters mutual understanding.
Since 2020, I am also part of the team of de Betekenaar. For clients of De Betekenaar, I create visual recordings & "Praatplaten" (Infographics), I facilitate visual sessions and I facilitate Inspiration workshops. But I am also active as trainer for De Betekenaar. So you could also meet me if you sign up for a training at De Betekenaar.
My motto is "a day without laughter is a day wasted". Laughter is healthy and part of life, every day! Whenever possible (and suitable), I also incorporate tjat into my drawings. So be warned, humor is definitely in my "pencil case"!
02.
What?
As a certified public accountant, I bring something extra to the table: I'm well-versed in the complex world of systems, operations, finance, control & audit, risk management, and the maze of laws and regulations.
Since I started drawing, everyone suddenly understands much better what i Mean with all my advices and audit findings 😉 I now draw many visions, plans and presentations. For myself, but also for others.
I also create and share sketchnotes and visual recordings of meetings, seminars and gatherings I go to. As a Visual Recorder I've learned to listen differently and am better able to visualize and then retain the essence of what's being said. And the great thing is that this also works for other participants in those meetings, seminars and gatherings!
I create drawings both on paper and digitally. I also create hand-drawn animations! The choice depends on what you, as the client, want to achieve!
I've also noticed it's infectious: I'm already receiving numerous requests to share drawing skills as a Trainer or to support as a Visual Facilitator ! And I'm happy to spread the drawing bug to others!
03.
Why?
Drawing is so powerful and effective because it's about visual communication ! And our human brains are inherently very visual. Especially in a world where we often use 'abstract words or umbrella terms", a drawing can be incredibly helpful in clarifying exactly what you actually mean.
Moreover, drawing is a universal language! I "rediscovered" that language myself through the "Teken4Daagse" (4 Days of Drawing-Challenge) organized by De Betekenaar in 2018. I had actually been drawing my whole life. However, the Teken4Daagse taught me how to use drawing as a communication tool , not as an end in itself. And since then, I've literally been drawing every day. Luckily, they enjoyed it at home too 😉
